Today, we have continued editing our Thriller opening using Final Cut Pro. However, we have also explored a range of different soundtracks which could possibly feature within our Thriller.
Of course, we aim to follow the conventions of a Thriller film, therefore we selected the appropriate 'Feels' that will accompany the events taking place in our Thriller, as well as giving the audience a clear vision of the the films genre.
Our main for today has been on using the programme Camtasia, which is essential in showing the conversation which takes place between Damien and Kaylin on Tumblr Ask. Here is some of the conversation that we have crafted, these questions and replies will be asked live using Camtasia.
Our aim is to show Damien asking Kaylin questions, with her replying, which will be shown in the bottom right corner of the screen. We have tested the size of the dialogue box which we placed alongside our footage, however we realise that we must zoom in to ensure the messages being typed can be seen by the audience.

After watching over our clips we realised the sounds for the actions did not match, or were not loud enough.
Due to this, we decided to make Foely sounds using a kettle, and a keyboard.
This is from The Clique which inspired me because usually conversation via in stand messaging, tends to be more one on one and there isn't a split screen of the character and chat. This could have been a good idea, as it conveys the character having a conversation with another character; the actual chat, it is clear and easy to understand what is happening.
-Film Damian in a kitchen environment
-Film the flashback sequence, discuss the process of murdering his previous victim.
Then throughout the lessons when we come back, we will edit our thriller opening using Final Cut Pro, Soundtrack Pro and Camtasia, as well as adding titles and ensuring the title sequence matches the conventions of a Narrative Opening.
Due to unforeseen circumstances two members of the group were not able to attend todays lesson, meaning filming could not be completed. We decided to proceed with the editing of what had already been filmed. We edited the first part of the introduction where Kaylin goes into her house and begins using her computer.
As my group were not able to attend todays lesson, I spent the lesson analysing the clips to make sure everything was good, the timing, lighting, camera angles ect.
We gathered in Starbucks to finalise our ideas about our plot for out Thriller opening, the type of shots we will use and to create a fake Tumblr account, of which our male character will communicate with the school girl on.
Plot.
Our male character is called Damian and the female is Doanne. They talk over tumbler, where Damian is the on who has a great interest in Doann's photographs. Our thriller will begin with Doanne coming home from from school, going to her room and login on to her tumbler account specifically looking for messages from Damian. They talk for sometime, Damian is located in a coffee shop with his laptop, after a long conversation, they talk about relationships and we have the idea that when Damian mentions his ex and their break up...
Whilst he types b r o k e u p . The flashback will play of Damian's ex and himself and when he types the full stop it there will be a flashback of Damian murdering his ex.
The opening of 'The Shining' shows many conventions of a Thriller, consequently creating the tone of the film before we are intoduced to the characters.
'The Shining' uses a Narrative Opening, where the titles appear whilst the location of the film is unveiled. The Mise en Scene shows a secluded location with just one car on the road which immediately suggests to the viewer that trouble is stirring, however the scenery is quite idyllic and can pose the idea that the journey of the character in the car could be full of splendor, furthermore the soundtrack used within the opening firmly implies that there is danger, where as if a more up beat, minor keyed soundtrack was played, the audience would have a completely different interpretation of the film and its meaning.
The Soundtrack includes deep undertones which may insinuate an unpleasent atmosphere, the volume of the music is loud, rather than creating a subtle effect on the audience, therfore the instant implification of tension is present.
The tiles used are in a Light Blue coloured text which is vibrant and literate on top of the scenery being shown, therfore this can imply the vigorous action that may be witnessed within the film, as well as promote the false hope of 'happiness' which diminishes throughout the plot of the film.
The Camera shows alot of long shots, which establish the scene aswell as communicate a great width of proxemics between the character and the camera, implying to the audience that a distance must be kept between themselves and that car. Tracking shots are also used to show that the character within the car is obviously the protagonist and it's his journey that we follow throughout the film. High angled shots also communicate how at first our interpretation of the character in the car is almost insignificant, however once the camera is at mid shot distance from the car we can understand his role is pivotal.
For our thriller we aim to have a narrative opening as it clearly views the titles along with the opening of the thriller, furthermore they are then out of the way once the introduction of the film has come to an end, we didn't want to use a Discrete film opening as it may cause confusion and our plot would be easier explained if a Narrative Opening was shown, as we want to keep the audience guessing for a while.
